Blood of my Blood-Game of Thrones Cocktail

Who’s ready for the season six finale of Game of Thrones this Sunday?! You know it’s going to be good. Game of Thrones has this habit of making a vast majority of its episodes seem like nothing will happen for the first 50 minutes or so and then in the last 5 minutes all hell breaks loose, Hodor anyone?!

Fans of Game of Thrones will know that every episode has these two components: lots of blood and lots of wine. This cocktail is inspired by both those things.

Did I mention that it has only three ingredients? Three. That’s it. No shaker, no simple syrup, no fruit cutting or herb muddling. Game of Thrones is already complicated enough with figuring out who’s related to who, and who owns what land. You don’t need a complicated cocktail to go with it.

Instead of running around finding numerous ingredients and figuring out how to make it, this drink will allow you to spend time thinking about more important things like why Daenerys is so freaking awesome and why Bran decided to peace out during season five while everyone else was suffering.

With only three ingredients, it’s a great last-minute drink to make before watching an episode. It also lends itself to be a great themed drink for your Game of Thrones viewing party because it can be made easily in bulk in a pitcher. Essentially, it’s a drink that Tyrion Lannister would be proud of.

Ingredients

  • Your favorite red wine (I recommend Montepulciano D’Abruzzo; Great tasting and only $5 at Trader Joe’s.)
  • Blood orange soda
  • 1 ounce of Triple Sec

Directions

  1. Fill 1/3 of your glass with the red wine of your choosing
  2. Add in 1 ounce of Triple Sec
  3. Fill the remainder of the glass with blood orange soda
  4. Mix well and serve. (Optional: line the rim with edible gold glitter and garnish with an orange rind and sword pick)

The night is dark and full of terrors so you might as well have a drink. Cheers!
